Several weeks ago we loaded up the BAV (Big Awesome Van) and headed East to my mom's house.
We had not all been to see her since H was a baby almost two years ago. We thought it about time as she is only four hours away.
I truly spent two days packing....well....I was feverish and sick so the children packed. I just made lists.
On the way we stopped in Burlington, Colorado to ride the Carousel. It is a very old wooded carousel. It's 25 cents to ride, goes 15 mph (!) and all the animals are antiques. When you ride, you are supposed to hold onto the pole and not the horse/animal so as to preserve the wood. After each ride, there is a history lesson given and a photo op. We had a lot of fun. It was the first time for a few of the children.

The time spent in Kansas was lovely. It wasn't too hot. We geocached all over my mom's town. We went to the Pioneer Day in a nearby town. We went to two awesome museums, went to the cemetary, saw a rattlesnake, watched volleyball, and so on and so forth.
It was nice to visit with my mom. Her house is full and cozy but when we got home the expanse of our living room was a nice homecoming!
Not sure when we will be going back. I'd like to visit many times a year.
